Pickup Truck Bed Caps – One of the worst secrets in the entire automotive industry has finally made its official debut – the Jeep Gladiator 2020 has just shown its face at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. This Jeep pickup is the first medium size truck offer from the FCA since the Ram killed the Dakota in 2011. This is also the first Jeep pickup since MJ Comanche ended production in 1992. The new Gladiator is a serious performer and a suitable successor in the line.
This “Wrangler with pickup bed” is powered by a 3.6 liter Pentastar V-6 that produces 285 horsepower, and in the calendar year 2020 it will be a FCA 3.0-liter EcoDiesel motor. While eight automatic speeds will be the most popular transmission, buyers can choose a six-speed manual on models equipped with Pentastar.

Right; if you can’t get a manual transmission in a small pickup truck, the Jeep’s Gladiator satisfies your needs.
To make the Gladiator a Gladiator, 31 inches added to the new JL Wrangler Unlimited with overall length and 19.4 inches also added to the wheelbase. That makes enough space for the 5-foot steel bed to be installed backward – and it helps payloads and pullers.
Before the debut of the new Jeep, the Chevrolet Colorado four-wheel drive was the best in class with £ 7,600. The new gladiator – only available in four-wheel drive – comes with a price of 7,650 if it is equipped with the Max Tow Package at the Sport Gladiator. What about one-upmanship?
Not much is sacrificed when you move to Rubicon off-road focused, either, because the towing package can still carry 7,000 pounds. The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, the only medium sized truck with this capability, only attracts 5,000 pounds. Fuel economy and current price information are unknown because the information will be released closer to the date of sale.
The maximum payload capacity is 1,600 pounds, depending on the truck version you get.
The ride quality must be helped by a front and rear five-coil Jeep suspension, something currently not offered by other medium truck makers. Leaf springs are a du-jour suspension for competitors like ZR2.
The technical brief here is clear to make Gladiators capable of like Wranglers, only with additional utilities brought in by pickup truck configurations to the table – that is to say, they also cannot sacrifice truck utility for off-road capability.
“Undoubtedly a truck and immediately recognized as a Jeep, the all-new 2020 Gladiator is the best vehicle for any outdoor adventure,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of the Jeep brand.
It’s hard to disagree with the specifications, but if you really want to be off-road with your Gladiator, it will. Again – because of the Jeep.
Gladiator has an approach angle of 46.3 degrees, a breakover angle of 20.38 degrees, and a departure angle of 26 degrees. This touts the ground opening of 11.1 inches and can reach 30 inches of water. The Dana 44 axle was used front and rear on the new Gladiator with the Sport model and Overland received the Command-Trac four-wheel drive. That includes a low range ratio of 2.72: 1.
The Rubicon model accepts a low range 4: 1 Rock-Trac drive system. It also has an electronic release shake bar as well as a front and rear locker. The crawl ratio of 77.2: 1 is available automatically and 84.2: 1 in the manual.
The Rubicon model also benefits from a standard 33-inch tire, a stone rail that protects the cabin and the angle of the truck bed, and a steel rear bumper. Optional is a steel front bumper that is ready with a winch and has a removable end cover.
There are many new technologies in the cabin too. The highlight here is the front camera that can be accessed via the off-road menu via a touch screen so you can keep an eye on the trail in front of you. Like Wrangler, Gladiators have a range of security technologies available including blind spot monitoring, lane keep assists, and adaptive roaming controls.
While the Gladiator doesn’t get the optional 12-inch Ram Rebel touch screen, the 8.4-inch uConnect system is on board with support for Google’s Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces.
You can’t talk about a Jeep without mentioning a removable roof, and the Gladiator comes with a soft top and two hardtops available. For those who don’t want to run the roof at all, it should be as easy to remove as the Wrangler. In addition, the doors will be detached and the windshield can be lowered with only four bolts – the same as the Wrangler. Jeep also promises a set of Mopar accessories that will be available to further customize the Gladiator according to the wishes of each owner, if they wish.
Gladiators were built in Toledo, Ohio and will be available in four trims: Sport, Sport S, Overland and Rubicon. This will be available in the second quarter of 2019, with diesel availability scheduled for 2020.
What we know is that from the looks of it, there is a new medium truck king in the city, and it goes by the name Gladiator.
