Used Fire Rescue Trucks For Sale – After several months of anticipation, a new fire engine was pulled into the Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Force last week. The fire engine, which has 107 feet of stairs, comes at a cost of $ 976,000. While the county has helped with the purchase of equipment in the past, the engine is the first fire truck that was fully purchased through regional funds.
The need for new firefighters is based on the age of the machine that the department has had for more than 20 years. To maintain the rank of the Insurance Service Department (ISO) the fire department is not supposed to have their first response truck – or the truck that left the fire station first – older than 20 years, said Dempsey Moore, head of Scruggs Fire. and Rescue.

The ISO rating affects the cost of homeowners insurance premiums.
The new engine will not be the only truck to increase the fire department’s warehouse. Scruggs Fire and Rescue is also set to receive a new $ 381,000 “attack” truck, which was purchased through community donations. Trucks are being produced in Florida and are planned to arrive in early December
Attack trucks can be used as fire engines, accident trucks that can be used to release drivers from vehicles and brush trucks for forest fires.
Scruggs is an organization of all volunteers with 39 members. The number of volunteers who have arrived at the fire site has declined over the years, so “you need one truck at the scene that can do all three things,” Moore said.
“This will save the community and county money has one truck doing three things,” Moore said. “You don’t have many trucks going up and down the highway.”
Because the new attack truck will have many uses, the department is set to part with some of its vehicles.
County bought one of Scruggs Fire and Rescue accident trucks from the county to be used by fast water teams and hazardous materials. The Scruggs fire engine from the 1990s will go to the Franklin County Public Safety training center in Ferrum, while Scruggs Fire and Rescue aims to sell old brush trucks.
“We buy better equipment to treat you better and more responsibly,” Moore said. “Without all of us, we will mean nothing.”
