Single Cab Trucks For Sale – There is no dispute over the place of a full size pickup truck at the top of the food chain of vehicle sales. Together, Ford, General Motors and Ram sold around 2.2 million items in the US last year. Also Nissan and Toyota rans added just shy of 170,000 more than that, so full-sized trucks now account for almost 14 percent of the US vehicle market.
What is debated – and this is a heated dispute, which is almost unrelenting in TV ads and bumper stickers that are not neat – which truck is the best truck, King of kings, Lord of the Contractor, Protector of Suburban People with Something to prove it.

With 897,000 samples sold here in 2017, the Ford F-series holds the title for now. The Silverado’s 586,000 sales may not look like much of a threat to Ford’s numbers, but with GMC Sierra sales added, that number rose to 804,000. And wherever there is a crown to win, a challenger dreams of it.
The new Silverado is bigger but lighter than the outgoing model. The entry-level 4.3-liter V-6 has not changed, but there are two new engines: a 3.0-liter turbo diesel, coming early next year, and a 310-liter inline-four, 2.7-liter turbocharged cellphone in December . The two existing V-8s feature the new Chevy Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) technology, which enhances the Active Fuel Management (AFM) cylinder deactivation system using 17 different ignition modes and turns off as many as six cylinders depending on driver demand for torque. DFM operates almost completely under the radar, thanks to the efforts of development engineers who program parameters for each ignition command to avoid unpleasant NVH. In our tests, the 5.3-liter Silverado binds to the F-150 5.0-liter 10-speed speed at 16 mpg. 5.7 liter 1500 Ram without the luxury eTorque hybrid hybrid system reaching 14 mpg.
The Silverado transmission line is now almost as diverse as the engine list. The standard 4.3-liter V-6 and 5.3-liter V-8 with AFM still pair with six-speed automatic, while 5.3 is equipped with new DFM technology using eight automatic speeds, as does the four cylinders when it becomes available. The 6.2-liter and 3.0-liter turbo diesel comes with a 10-speed automatic that GM shares with Ford. The only single speed transfer case is the new standard for the all-wheel-drive model, although the Z71 Off-Road truck package is available – standard on the Trail Boss model – adding back low range. Every all-wheel-drive Silverado now has push-button electronic controls to manage the system (some basic and near-base models are used to install floor transfers for this purpose).
One of the main criticisms of the truck that came out was that the truck was too similar to its predecessor, to the point that even clever trucks could not distinguish the two. Maybe Chevy has taken the whole “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” thing too far. So the new Chevy sheetmetal truck stamps with slimmer lines on the hood and around the wheel wells, and an array of multilevel lights modernizes the Silverado face. We’re not sure Chevy nailed this time, either; at the traffic lights, a motorist looks out the window to call Silverado feminine – well, okay, that’s not the word he uses.
Non-cosmetics tweaked to the exterior have a more positive effect. Chevy claims the short sleeper variant of the Silverado V-8 lost 450 pounds compared to the last generation, largely due to a new manufacturing strategy that allowed GM to build the body and frame from several different levels of steel and doors, bonnet and aluminum tailgate. Varying the thickness of steel over different parts of the frame makes the Silverado lighter without relying on expensive aluminum-intensive construction, as Ford does. Load ratings and cranes rose several hundred pounds for some models, and the new Silverado bed was built in three parts, allowing wheel wells to be stamped differently, increasing cargo volume by 63 cubic feet in a short bed model. Compare that with Ram 1500 beds at 54 cubic feet and F-150 at 53 cubic feet, and everything starts to look good for Chevy usurpers.
The figures are great news for contractors and weekend warriors who rely on their trucks to get big jobs, but many truck owners treat their workers more like show-off bangs. So Chevrolet aims to build a truck that will ride well even when it’s irregular, and during our initial trip on well-maintained Wyoming roads, Silverado seems to fulfill that goal. It recovers quickly from small bumps, the steering is weighted well and accurately without dead zones, and overall it feels very agile on winding mountain passes. But in Michigan, the cabin of the 5.3-liter crew that we tested sometimes became uncomfortable on damaged roads, especially when traveling at freeway speeds.
One point for the Midwest, though: When climbing feet around the Wyoming Tetons above 6000 feet, a 355-hp 5.3-liter fails to express full power, and an eight-speed automatic is sometimes left behind when going uphill in part, downshifting some seconds after humans. Back on our flat ground, however, our RST model jumps to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. That was a decent speed even for vehicles that did not weigh two and a half tons, but that was not enough to win a truck war.
The new RST trim level for 2019 and is basically an appearance-performance package with a black bow tie badge; LED head, fog and rear lights; and colored body prints in striking chrome spots that adorn the LTZ and High Country models. Starting at $ 45,995, the all-wheel-drive cabin RST leaves many facilities on the table. Our example includes options such as dual zone climate control; heated front and steering seats; two USB ports in the second row; landing packages with larger rear axles, radiators with more cooling capacity, and revised shock adjustments; and active safety items, such as front and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring. The 5.3 liter is also a top four 2.7-liter turbocharged upgrade, which will be a standard offer in RST trim.
Our truck, which costs $ 56,875, feels like a bargain, with interior trim materials that fail to justify such price tags. Even the High Country model leaves something to be desired. This is possible to make room for General recipients for Sierra or to maximize the already huge profit margin; Whatever the case, when it comes to the interior, Ford and Ram beat Chevy.
Between the diet, the DFM system and the upcoming diesel and four-cylinder engines, Silverado is on track in line with the F-150 fuel economy, and GM expects to reduce Ford in production costs. Silverado may not be faster or more comfortable than the F-150, but larger beds and higher crane ratings will make some customers pay attention. And if you can make more money from each sale than Ford, GM can wear a crown even if Silverado doesn’t sit on the sales throne.
