Diesel Trucks For Sale In Iowa – The Perryville Department of Public Works has the first natural gas powered garbage truck this week, in a move expected by officials to increase productivity and reduce pollution because old equipment is retired. The second vehicle is expected to be ready for city crews to take home at the end of the week.
At a cost of $ 283,000 per unit – a total of $ 566,000 – trucks are equipped with extendable arms that can pick up standard trash and automatically give them the upper end of the vehicle container, allowing for one man’s operation of the trash route. Historically, two people were asked to do work – one to drive a vehicle, and one to handle a trash can.

According to Josh Iser, a sales representative with an Iowa-based manufacturer, New Way, switched to natural gas not only ensuring lower emissions at a cost that is compatible with other hydrocarbon fuel sources, but providing greater reliability during the period when diesel trucks experienced increased reliability issues.
“It’s greener, but the truck is running,” Iser said. “With all the new diesel exhaust laws there has been a lot of down time, maintenance problems, regarding new diesel equipment. It’s cleaner, and this is a source of American fuel produced here. ”
Public Works, which have witnessed large conversions for natural gas vehicles at the behest of city officials, now have around eight such vehicles in their fleets, as well as refueling depots at their headquarters.
Iser also quickly shows the efficiency that can be obtained with a 12 foot claw arm, which extends from the side of the vehicle to handle the waste container.
“Automation prevents loose material on the road, like garbage, it prevents garbage,” he said. “This prevents animals from entering the trash. There are security aspects for the operator, where they don’t lift heavy items, and now the machine lifts the load. Drivers at the end of the day are fresher, and not worn out. They can go home and back and knees and ankles [don’t hurt]. And there are fewer workers compensation claims. ”
After the second vehicle in Iowa is ready for action, the Public Works crew will travel to the state to take off the vehicle. A team of several city workers, who had mapped their previous routes to consider the presence of natural gas refueling stations, would drive trucks to Perryville.
The trucks are expected to last seven to eight years in city services. The current city garbage truck fleet will still be usable, at least for now, because there are still some areas that cannot be put into new trucks.
