Used Dually Trucks For Sale – With passenger cars leaving the line, the battle for sales and profits in Detroit will be carried out almost only by truck. You have seen what General Motors has for HD truck buyers, and Fiat Chrysler is expected to reveal its own alternatives to the Super Ford Task line before long.
However, as profitable as half a ton and HD, GM awaits to challenge Ford with a new mid-range Silverado line, revealed earlier this year. With this truck, the General hopes to turn medium-duty sales into commercial demand for lower-class pickups and SUVs.

The more profitable fleet sales side – commercial sales – are in line with GM’s views, Reuters reported. Last year, car makers announced plans to increase profitability by stemming the flow of vehicles, especially cars, to the rental fleet. Now, this blocks the flow of cars to retail buyers to turn off lights in poorly performing factories. It makes trucks with higher margins to make extra money for car makers.
In the field of commercial trucks, Ford is the king, but GM is making progress. The automaker recorded a 24 percent increase year-on-year in commercial sales in November, even when retail sales fell 1 percent. (GM is now distancing its full sales statistics from observation, releasing data only every quarter.)
At the same time, year-on-year rental sales have fallen to 10 percent of GM’s volume, down from 15.8 percent five years ago. During that period, commercial sales rose from 7.8 percent of the total volume to 11 percent.
This week, GM and its partner Navistar International Corp. began production of Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 in hopes of attracting orders from the public works, utilities and construction companies. The company hopes that, as seen with other mid-duty trucks, this sale translates into the purchase of smaller GM vehicles. The industry average is around six light trucks and cars for the purchase of each medium duty truck.
GM dumped its medium-duty truck line during the 2009 bankruptcy. Now, the line is back – with far more corporate branding than before, plus the pedigree line directly into the famous Silverado line – just as automakers plunged deep into their downsizing efforts.
As for GM’s main competitor, Ford’s commercial fleet sales reached 12.4 percent of total volume in November, up 2.1 points from last November. This year, the Blue Oval commercial volume stood at 12.9 percent, up one point from last year. In contrast, last year’s 7.5 percent rental sales represented a 2.9 percent decline compared to the same period last year.
